Here’s the before pics. Wow this was an old, nasty system. Notice the pipe lengths are different in the back!
This old Hoovie system has been replaced with:
- Hedman 88408 headers
- Summit Racing 2 1/4" mandrel bent exhaust kit for Mustangs
- Dynomax super turbos
- Custom H pipe
- stainless tips
I'll get some pics of final soon.... Exhaust shop was proud of how it turned out so they're posting on their site.
Some tidbits (things I learned):
1.) Hedman 88408s went in "ok" ... passenger side dropped in but driver's side tricky with all of the equipment in the way above and below (Power steering on bottom, power brakes on top). After getting them in place they look great and fit great. Using Mustang 65 motor mounts without lower brace. Did not need PS drop down bracket. I'm running a Modern Driveline cable clutch and yes room for cable.
2.) Dynomax's aren't what they used to be..... Shop said the made in USA turbo mufflers from Summit kit slightly better quality than the Dynomax's. They ended up using the Dynomax's tho because of their size and pipe offsets: The Dyno's have centered input/offset out, which they said fit better.
3.) Buy copper header gaskets... Just do it. the hedman gaskets are TERRIBLE.
4.) Buy ARP stainless header bolts... SO much easier to use
As for sound... All I can say is "wow". I had 2 1/8" pipes with old turbos and manifolds (351W manifolds) ... The sound with headers, these Dynomax turbos, and crossover is fantastic. Mellow rumble.... very quiet in cabin at idle. Very little drone.
