Tucson, Arizona This is my 67 Sports coupe
drag car.
Specs: 1973 302 bored 30 over, 1966 289 HiPo heads, Weiand Tunnel ram
manifold with dual Holley 650 Double Pumpers, Comp cams full roller with
Crane gold roller rockers creating .640 total lift, JE Domed forged
pistons and Eagle H-beam forged rods. C4 transmission with manual
reverse valve body and trans-brake with a Hughes 8" 5000 RPM stall
converter . Read end is Mark Williams 35 spline, spool with 5.67 gears.
Engine makes approximately 420 HP @ 7000 RPM.
Car is back-halved with 3" x 3" tubing with an 8 point roll cage. Tires
are Goodyear 25 x 4.5 front and MT 31 x 10 x 15W rear.
This vehicle has been a drag car for almost 20 years. I purchased it in
May of 2002 and very recently have made a few mods. The tunnel ram has
been replaced with a Edelbrock Victor Jr. and has a new Holley 750 HP.
With the dual carbs the car's best outing was an ET of 11.662 (11.515
corrected for sea level) seconds @ 116.2 MPH in Phoenix (1200'
elevation). Since installing the new manifold and single carb the best
was 11.935 (11.489 corrected) seconds @ 113.3 in Tucson, elevation of
3075 feet. Much less hassel with one carb although it doesn't look as
intimidating.
More changes to come: disc brakes for the front, set of AFR 205CC heads
and a 5600 RPM stall converter. Should bring the car to the low 11s or
high 10s with the new heads.
Having always been a Ford fanatic, I've finally got one that draws looks
and positive feedback from anywhere I take it, car shows or the strip. I
really appreciate this forum to see what others have done to keep these
treasures alive. Thanks,
Mike Gardner |
